My dad has been diagnoised with shingles.?

Iam 34 weeks pregnant and I have a 16 month old. His dr said that is not contagious but I have read that if you havent had chicken pox that you can get them form shingles is this true? I had chicken pox when I was younger but a very very mild case adn the dr said that I could possibly get them again and of course my daughter hasent had them yet, so Im wondering if we should not be aroung him until the rash goes away( I know the virus never goes away but Im talking about the outbreak)... any info would be greatly appriciated!
