Is a PSP a good system?

I want to ask for a PSP for Christmas/ Hanukkah/ The Winter Solstice/ Whatever holiday my dad is planning on celebrating this year. Is this a good product? What are some of it's drawbacks? Are there any similar systems better than the PSP? What are they? Would you recommend a PSP?
